Changes.

So I've been thinking about this blog amidst the five thousand other things I could be thinking about in a day and I have decided that there are going to be some housekeeping and/or changes around here. I have been keeping this as a family blog for a few years- mainly as a way that our far flung relations have an easy access to witness the growings of our little ones.
I think I might have grown out of the need to broadcast my personal life like this- and have decided that I would like to turn this instead into a blog devoted to the writing I set out in college to do. I guess at this point I don't really care if anybody else reads it- I think that by doing it I will slowly learn to feel better in my skin about life as a self declared writer.

Many of you know me on Face Book and in personal life, so there you will see my children. There will be my news. Here is out to be something different.
I'm not going to delete past entries, just morph and change into something else entirely.
Rather like life and growing it's self.

Thanks for being here for the ride.

Rides with my little bean

Yesterday morning we packed up the car, brushed out our ferocious bed-head and headed north. Up the coast we drove, my little bean and I, just us two. I used to do this when my oldest was a babe, head out with no destination really and just our whims to take us on a grand adventure. Usually it was only until the midday nap...which could have been one or two... depending. We would find ourselves in Blue Hill, Belfast, Portland, Cape Elizabeth... wherever struck our fancy.

So we picked this day (which of course turned out to be the hottest of the summer as of yet) and headed up the coast. We made it to Camden, where we discovered a lovely farmers market where we sampled some yummy gluten free granola (Lucy's...) and said howdy to some friends who were baking in the heat. Contemplated pizza for breakfast, and then ambled on.

Our next stop was Laite Beach, which was lovely and more or less abandoned. My wee one is generally not a fan of water, but I am trying to warm her up to the idea. We played in the smooth sand and drew designs with our fingertips and toes. Collected smooth dark round rocks and periwinkles that would be later strung for a sister...

This is the "I am SO no cool with this beach thing, Mama, what were you thinking" face.

Well... maybe...

Heading back Rockport way, we stopped at Aldemere Farm, home of the lovely Belted Galloway cows. This farm is a part of the Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and is a lovely place to visit. The animals are friendly and the volunteers even more so. Beef is also for sale...and as tempted as I was, the heat kept me from buying any. The volunteer said that it is lean and delicious.

Driving home I realized how our lives here are so stuck in one or two small towns and routines, and it's ok, really, but something about it makes me want to sometimes venture out. You forget the whole rest of the world out there, stuck in the community who knows you well and whom you know...and something about being unknown and anonymous, for even a day...

Spring gardens

A year ago, I went to the Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbour with my dear old friend and her little one. It had just rained, and we meandered around, getting happily wet and witnessed the early summer garden coming to life. A beautiful thing.

Love this place. SO magical.

Lesson plan

Lessons:

(For her):

Looking at the globe.

Days of the week.

days/hours/minutes/seconds

Writing letters.

Cursive.

(For me):

Breathing.

Not complaining.

Being grateful.

Enjoying.

Smiling. (Relaxing...taking it all as it is, as it comes...)

Loving (even if...)(all of it)

Dang, hard stuff.

and for the crown...

Yesterday I decided, after a wonderful inspiring conversation with my husband's best friend and one of the sweetest girls (mamas) I know, I decided to do something moderately crafty. I know,  I know, far fetched notion that it may be. So yeah, I purused Ravelry with craft-lust intent. And I came across a pattern I could just not refuse.  It was Pamela W. Allen's Waldorf crown, so simple and sweet... And completely perfect for two little sassy sprites that I know...

and now to make another one so they don't have to share!!

Image Lust

This past Friday the wires finally began streaming around our house, which is very exciting. We began this whole project unsure if we really wanted electricity IN the house, simply because we were wanting to be as low cost as possible. Not only that, but we had this sweet idealistic (hippy) view that wouldn't it be nice and peaceful to have a home without the constant hum of the appliances.
After that wore off, we realized that it would be hard. Both my sweetie and I have lived with out electricity for a time, and we decided together that perhaps life with children and as adults (not idealistic kids in their twenties...) we wanted it. And this is the very same way that we decided we wanted plumbing. Even if it is not hooked up the day we move in, we want a toilet a possibility and the concept of someday having our washing machine useable a possibility. The mere thought of driving to the laundry mat and shelling out a lifetime's worth of quarters was simply more then either of us could stand. We've both been there. And now...building our home...  We both definitely have the desire to tread as softly on this earth as possible, but in the ever-changing world we live in, we decided that hippies though we may be seen as, we still want our running water and electricity. Eventually.

With the electrical wires coming in, with outlets and all, we also put a good number of walls up. Our house is really starting to look like something somebody might live in! It is easier now to go in and imagine the life we will soon be living over there...
And with that, I start daydreaming...

I have the sweet job of searching for images that really make me drool. Not only that, but I get to go to the flea markets and search for knobs for cupboards and other things that would be in my "dream house." I have never really had a space like this before, and it's fun to think that no matter what crazy things I think up, they are a possibility. An amazing thing. I suppose it is what every home builder/home owner gets to dream up, but all my life I have never lived in something that is truely my own. All through my late teens and twenties I have lived in apartments, barns, cabins; all that belonged to other people and I couldn't dream to my Libra heart's content. And so here we are...finally... It's like breathing a big huge sigh of relief. It's like graduating college. Or maybe not. I think it might be a more  real step to being an adult. (Wait, really? huh?) I graduated from college and  strangely didn't feel any older then when I was 18.

drawer pulls.

LOVE these....

sigh...

Doesn't that look just like me???
